Create a character walk cycle as well as effects animations for Portugal. The Man’s latest music video for their song “ What, Me Worry?”. The final deliverables for this project were transparent .mov’s to be composited by the motion team at Kamp Grizzly

Portugal. The Man is an award winning Portland, Oregon based alternative rock band. I created character sheets and 2D animated assets for this project.
CHARACTER SHEET + ROUGH ANIMATIONS
One of the key challenges in this project was building a full character turnaround from a single illustration provided by the band. I deconstructed the original artwork into simplified shapes and used that as a foundation to create accurate perspective shifts. Below are several rough animation tests, all created in Procreate on the iPad.
DIRECT CONTRIBUTIONS
Below are the assets I created for the music video, heavily inspired by Cuphead and classic 1940s animation, drawing on rubber hose techniques and exaggerated facial expressions. This was my first time animating effects, so I dedicated a full day to researching traditional animation principles to understand how to approach those elements effectively.
