“WHAT, ME WORRY?”

Portugal. The Man is an award winning Portland, Oregon based alternative rock band. I created character sheets and created 2D animated assets for this project.

THE ASK

Create a character walk cycle as well as effects animations for Portugal. The Man’s latest music video for their song “ What, Me Worry?”.

DELIVERABLES

The final deliverables for this project were transparent .mov’s to be composited by the motion team at Kamp Grizzly

CHARACTER SHEET + ROUGH ANIMATIONS

Part of the challenge for this project was creating an entire turnaround based off of a single illustration which the band provided. I took their original illustration, broke it apart into simpler shapes, and created the perspective shifts based off of that. Below you will also find rough animations, all of which were done on Procreate for the iPad.

DIRECT CONTRIBUTIONS

Below are the assets I created for the music video. I drew a lot of inspiration from Cuphead (video game) and early 1940’s animation with rubberhose elements and exaggerated expressions. It was my first time animating effects animations - it took me about a day of research to break down how those elements were to be animated.
